Lazy Ramblings

For lack of creativity and anything extraordinary to write, I started drooling over a few topics that made the news over the past couple of days - -

1. And Justice for all - Finally Jessica Lall's soul can rest in peace. This really has been a one of a kind case where the Indian media for a pleasant change canvassed the entire re-investigation campaign. Even though the verdict is yet to be passed, the guilty has atleast been made to consume a daily dosage of 'muffins'. I'm all for a 'life sentence' rather than a quick trip to the gallows and beyond. The reason being, Manu Sharma is all of 29 yrs old...young enough to spend his lifetime in jail reminiscing he horrid crime he commited. The thought itself should be good enough to drive anyone insane. Dafa 302 would only liberate him from the impending agony... and a scumball like him doesnt deserve to get such a noble death. Thoughts???

2. Dude looks like a lady - Inspite of all the advances our country has made over the years, its pretty much been a stagnant growth on the sports front. A few that are succesful are hounded by the press, public and (now) doctors alike. Santhi apparently failed a 'gender' test after winning at the Doha Asian games. Its hard to fathom how she (innocent until proven guilty) must be feeling right now. The ignominy that awaits her when she steps into her small destitute village, the shock that her parents must have endured and above all the disappointment of having worked so hard and being stripped off her medal is way beyond contemplation. I'm far from being an expert in these 'chromosome' tests, but I firmly believe that after an initial failure, a 2nd test has to be performed immediately before releasing the story to the media. The way this has been handled right now is pretty pathetic...the damge has already been done. Say for arguement's sake, the tests turn out to be negative, returning the medal would hardly serve as damage control. The pain, suffering, misery and the anguish that the athelete has to go through in that time frame is not something the Olympic Committe would be able to compensate for. The same arguement goes for the drug tests. If the 1st sample indicates presence of banned substabces, tke a 2nd (stool sample) and for cross-reference. I think Santhi should be given a fair chance...comments?

3. Pak Chik Pak Raja Babu - I could not stop laughing at Sreesanth's antics after clobbering the incessant mosquito Nel for a towering six. The gyrations reminded me of a certain Govinda thrusting his pelvic riding a Yezdi in Raja Babu. Sreesanth has joined the elite (but small) group of Indian cricketers who have responded magnificiently after an altercation. Only Prasad (v Sohail) and Harbhajan (v Ponting) spring to mind. But its not all fun and games with we Indians. The ugly face of being on the wrong side of double standards raised its despicable hood again. For all of Nel's chatter (throughout his insignificant career), for all of the Aussie sledging and the Kiwi's 'innocuous' banter, its always the Indians who are reprimanded. I'm not saying Sreesanth is a saint from the temples of Guruvayur but he is as culpable as Nel for the every other ball ball he delivers. I know, its only 30% of his match fees and going by the leverage he would get after this performance (with the ball as well as his balls) its pretty insignificant. But its the same old story of yet another victim which includes elite thugs like Sachin, Dravid, Sehwag and Prasad. Oh and before I sign off...my request for Sreesanth in the next match is a Waltz with Nel...sparks would surely fly :-)!!!

1. Totally agreed ... but that's because I am against capital punishment ... Overall, justice was served which is good but the amount of time it takes to get such a verdict out is BAD ! Generally celebs never get to see the "just" side of justice.

2. I don't think I agree on this one. eg. if someone is arrested based on a charge which is yet to be proved media coverage comes along with it as a whole package ... isn't this a similar thing ... something which is not proved has been made public.

3. Sreesanth wasn't fined for the incident with Nel. He was fined because he charged towards Amla after dismissing him when he wasn't provoked at all (at least that's how I understand it was). But yes on a general note Indians (Indian subcontinent actually) have got the rough end of the stick on most occasions.

1. Better late than NEVER
2. When the 2nd tests are surely to be performed, then why go ahead and release the story? If someone is arrested on false charges and let off scot free if they are innocent, media also hails them as a hero. But with Santhi, coming from a rural village in TN, the ignominy can never be wiped off.
3. I know what Sreesanth was fined for...but the problem is PARITY. Tell me if every single Aussie has been fined for a similar offence. What I was pointing at is, its wrong to see off a batsman once he is out but its 'mind-games' when u swear at a batsman at the crease. What double-standards!

1. I am totally against Capital Punishment too so if that is the judgement so be it. Let him live every single day in remorse thinking about the crime he committed. "Solitary confinement" would be even better. And when he is 55 or so, I wouldnt mind an encounter :-)

2. Though nothing seems to escape the press these days, I do think that the candidate's background should be give its due importance.

3. I was laughing my guts off at 4 am in the morning. Only Ravi Shastri's inane comments in his show with Gautam Bhimani abated the irresistable laughter.

I was looking for a link in these three mutually exclusive incidents. I guess it is just an overdose of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's movies.

i dont think i agree with any of these points.

1) he should have been hanged.

2) if you are ready for the publicity, the bad publicity comes along with it. so be prepared.

3) does aussies doing it resolve the problem with sreesanth's behavior ? i mean a wrong is a wrong, no matter what.

Marw i don't think you quite understand what I meant when I said 'PARITY'. All I said was why maintain the double standards? If he is culpable...so are the other wrongdoers.

i guess you are missing my point. all i am saying is we make it sound as if sreesanth is a victim .. and i dont think he is. he committed a crime and he was fined for it .. period. It doesnt matter if Nel can get away with the same. The latter doesnt and shouldnt have any bearing on the former.

Son get ur bearings right....
1. UNDERSTAND what i tried to say in the blog.
2. MULL over it and debate on what I TRIED to say and not on what I DID NOT say.
3. What ur saying is CORRECT but that was hardly a point of discussion here.
4. Once again...the buzz word here is 'PARITY' (Times Roman 72...BOLD)

Marw..cmon man..u gave up on the argument so easily..fight it out. Don't let that 140 pound c*** think that you have lost. Be a man..be the vehement building-feller that we all know you to be.

1. About the Jessica Lall Murder case, there should be some more people who should be prosecuted. Namely those who did perjury in the initial investigation. Culpable officers who facilitated the accused to almost get away. Those people should also be given prison sentences. It is due to people like them that people get away with crime. Before another Manu Sharma thinks of doing it, let him atleast fear the system. Life imprisonment is the correct way to go about it for Manu Sharma.

2. Just wanted to point out that the 2nd test is more for the benefit of the challengers and lawyers of the accused to confirm the first test results. The first test results are assumed to be correct and binding and second test is just done for confirmation for the challengers. Challenging a failed test is almost routine and also is done to ascertain exact amounts of banned substances for lawyers to come up with excuses for that percentages.

3. Roshan Mahanama fined Sreesanth which is correct. It was wrong and he was fined correctly. Now, if the match referee does not fine an Aussie player than the Match referee needs to be hauled up. But, I guess here the problem is with vague rules from ICC and the interpretations left to over eager match referees.

KK,
1. Couldn't agree more with you....guys like Yograj Singh are left scot free which is ridiculous.
2. There hasn't been a challege to the first test. Its a re-test to check the veracity of the results by a different doctor, a different body. So why don't you wait till the 2nd comes out?
3. Again...spot on comment.

Anonymous said...

Yep...close to 200....but I do posses the brain of a human being....catch my drift or am im being too OBTUSE?

Balls,
I think your last comment is an unnecessary argument. All it proves is that you have an overdose of Shawshank.
Does it mean that when you were 140 pounds you did not possess the brains of a human being ? So..I did not catch ur drift ..u are being too obtuse!

Anonymous said...

Mr. Anon,
Just the fact that u didnt catch my drift implies u def dont have the thinking prowess of a human.

Anonymous said...

So tell me..who are you? Are you an authority who decides who possesses the brain of a human and who does not? Do you have the scientific knowledge to actually make a judgement of that order?I think someone not understanding what you meant does say a thing about your non-lucid way of writing. I reiterate..all that I can make out is that you have a hangover of Shawshank redemption and nothing else. The rest is all "blah..blah..blah"

Not only are u a wimp hiding under the cloak of anonymity, u seem to be blessed with a lovely linguistic handicap (the way u've interpreted my comment) and oh oh...did I forget to mention...a losing evolutionary battle!

Oooh..what a comment..you made your point..I am shit scared now.Again all I can hear is "blah..blah..blah".
